Whatsapp continues to increase its number of active users. it reached 700 million monthly active
users back in january 2015.
Today, the company's Chief executive officer Jan Koum revealed that whatsapp now has 800 million
monthly active users in just 3 months, faster than last time. it took 4 months to reach 700 million
Facebook announced whatsapp acquisition in february last year that finally completed in October for
22 billion dollars. Earlier this year, it introduced whatsapp web that enables users send messages
through browsers. web support was first launched on google chrome and later it was expanded to
firefox and opera browsers. Whatsapp also got calling feature back in February and this was initially
intended for all android users without an invitation.
For me, i think the increase in active user is due mainly to the latest voice call ability for android and
blackberry users. This is because the feature is so user friendly and more so, it helps reduce the cost
of voice calls from carriers.
This is indeed a good news to whatsapp development team at whatsapp Inc.
